Permanent Makeup/ Tattoo Contraindications & Eligibility Guide

Your safety is our priority. Certain medical conditions, medications, skin conditions, and circumstances may affect your eligibility for permanent makeup, cosmetic tattooing, scar camouflage, or paramedical tattoo procedures.

You may be unable to receive certain services at Aesthetik Artistry Studio if you have the following conditions. Although this list includes many contraindications, there could be others not mentioned here that may also impact your eligibility for services. We retain the right to assess what constitutes a contraindication. Please consult with your skincare professional and doctor if you have any questions or concerns.

This guide is intended for educational purposes only. Eligibility is determined during your consultation and health history review. Individual circumstances vary and additional documentation or physician clearance may be required.

General Contraindications & Eligibility Requirements

​Temporary Contraindications
 

  • Under the age of 18

  • Pregnant or Nursing

  • Undergoing Chemotherapy or Radiation

  • Recent Surgeries on the area to be treated

  • Use of Accutane within the last 12 months

  • Current use of Retinol

  • Eczema on treatment site

  • Rashes

  • Active acne on treatment site

  • Taking steroids such as cortisone, Retin-A or Renova

  • Open wounds or lesions on treatment site

  • Botox or filler within the last 30 days

  • Active Shingles

  • Active cancers

  • Cold or Flu

  • Currently on pain medication or antibiotic use

  • Those who are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs during the appointment

  • Recent chemical peels

  • Recent laser treatments

  • Sunburn or Recent tanning bed use within 30 days

Medical Conditions Requiring Physician Clearance
 

  • Uncontrolled High Blood Pressure (requires written physician approval)

  • Heart Disease or Disorder (requires written physician approval)

  • Blood Disorder (requires written physician approval)

  • Taking blood thinners (requires written physician approval)

  • Clotting disorders (requires written physician approval)

  • Diabetes (requires written physician approval)

  • Active Herpes Outbreak (cold sore)

  • Autoimmune Disorder (depending on the disorder a written physician approval is required)

  • Compromised immune system (requires written physician approval)

Not Ideal Candidates
 

  • Epilepsy

  • History of Keloid Scarring

  • History of Hypertrophic Scarring

  • Taking ARV's

  • Psoriasis

  • Herpes Simplex

  • Hepatitis

  • Allergies to Metal

  • Recent Surgeries on the area to be treated

  • Moles, Lesions, Sores on the treatment area

  • Infectious Skin or Blood Disorders

  • Healing Disorders

  • Claustrophobia

  • Inability to lay for a long period of time

  • Epidermolysis Bullosa Simplex

  • Allergy to pigment, inks, dyes

  • Susceptibility to post-inflammatory hyper- or hypo-pigmentation

  • Spider veins or a birthmark in the area they want to be treated

  • Blood disorder e.g. sickle cell anemia, haemophilia, or a platelet disorder

  • viral infections and/or diseases

  • Those who are taking steroids, anxiety medications or antidepressants

PMU Brows

Additional Brow-Specific Considerations
 

  • Existing permanent makeup may require assessment

  • Certain correction cases may require removal/lightening first

  • Excessively saturated previous work may not be a candidate for immediate correction

  •  We do not recommend brow services for those with extensive asymmetry of the eyebrows due to uneven soft tissue and/or facial structur

Eyeliner Tattoo

Things unique to eyeliner:

  • Dry eye concerns

  • Contact lens considerations

  • Inability to allow work near eyes

  • Glaucoma

  • Chronic eye inflammation

  • Active Styes

  • Eye infection or conditions

  • Recent eyelid or eyelid surgery (wait 6 months)

  • Use of Latisse or lash serums (must be discontinued at least 4-6 wks prior)

  • Recent LASIK (within 6 months)

Paramedical Tattooing/ Procedures

Things unique to scar camouflage, areola/nipple tattooing, scar revision:

  • Scar age requirements (must be at least 1 year old)

  • History of Keloids

  • Hypertrophic scars

  • Active redness

  • Unstable pigmentation

  • Recent surgery

  • Scar must be fully healed

  • Scar color should be stable

  • No ongoing remodeling

  • No active hypertrophic or keloid formation

  • Scar texture must be suitable for tattooing
