You’ve been dying for stress free brows but you also love caffeine.. Me too. I can’t survive without my cup of espresso in the morning! But do you really have to cut the caffeine before your Microblading or Permanent Makeup Appointment?
The short answer is yes!
You shouldn’t drink coffee, soda, tea, or energy drinks.. (pretty much everything and anything with caffeine in it) before getting ANY KIND of permanent makeup procedure. Some people think they can get away with drinking decaf before they come in.. I’m here to tell you that isn’t true what-so-ever! Decaf still has traces of caffeine (even if it's definitely less than regular coffee). You should not have ANY KIND of caffeine 24-48 hours before your procedure.
Why?
Caffeine is a stimulant which affects our bodies in different ways that will seriously have a negative impact on your results and lead to wasting more time and money to get the brows you’ve been endlessly waiting for! Even small amounts can affect the skin’s sensitivity, cause more bleeding, and cause your skin to heal slower!
Increased Skin Sensitivity
Because permanent makeup is a form of tattoo, it isn’t painless. It depends on how your individual pain tolerance is, how sensitive your skin is, and how well you numb. Caffeine can cause your skin to be more sensitive and reactive. This means it can lead to causing you pain and discomfort making it an excruciating experience.
More Blood Flow
Caffeine will cause your blood vessels to expand, which means more blood flow! This is a huge problem because it will cause you to bleed more than normal during the procedure which means as your artist is implanting pigment into your skin, your blood is pushing the pigment out of your skin. When this happens, it will impact your pigment retention (which means you may need more sessions to complete your brows) and can cause poor-quality work, as well as negatively impacting your healing process.
Slow Healing Process
Our skin naturally regenerates. When you get a tattoo done we are essentially creating a controlled wound while creating art - when you get microblading or permanent makeup done, it's the same thing! Caffeine negatively affects our bodies ability to heal and regenerate, so your skin may not heal as quickly or well as it normally would. Slower healing means the skin on your brows will remain open longer, increasing your chances of getting an infection!
If drinking your coffee or caffeine is more important to you than getting your brows done, live your best life!
If you are looking to get your brows done, honestly you should be sure you are following ALL pre-care information your artists give you. You’re making an investment on yourself so that you can feel confident when you look at yourself in the mirror. You should make every effort you can to protect that investment. Put that coffee down and wait. It’ll all be worth it - proper healing and long-lasting results are waiting for you.
